Abstract

The presence of Hoplias malabaricus in the Ecuadorian hydrography is very extensive given the water richness of the country, which possesses the physical and climatic conditions required by this species. Despite being cataloged by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature as a minor concern, the "Tararira" is one of the most important carnivorous river fish in the region, so knowing its hydrogeo-graphic distribution through the use of The Maxent and DivaGis programs, is the first step for the development of efficient conservation practices. For this, 97 compiled records of the species and 19 bioclimatic variables given by Bioclim were used. The results obtained to date indicate that H. malabaricus is distributed in the majority of watersheds in Ecuador, mainly in the Pastaza and Bobonaza rivers. In contrast, the modeling carried out indicates that the distribution of H. malabaricus would be in the vicinity of the Coca, Napo and San Miguel rivers, which correspond to areas where the "Tararira" niche is ideal for carrying out viable conservation projects. the species. It is advisable to extend scientific studies that corroborate both the taxonomy and the distribution of it, since it is a species that generates confusion until today
